It’s called ‘Baseball’!

“In the end, it comes down to throwing one pitch after another, and seeing what happens. With each new consequence, the game begins to take shape.” Commander Benjamin Sisko, Deep Space Nine, “Emissary”

That’s right, baseball is in the air.  Still.  A month after the season started, I may be a little late to the party, but what the heck – I love baseball.  I don’t always watch it, but playing it is about my favourite thing to do in the summer.  It’s such a shame that one of the local leagues charges $125/person or $990/team just to play a weekly game of softball.  Luckily I play in a weekly church league for free, the downside being that sometimes there just aren’t enough people to field two teams (let alone field one team).

Where was I?  Oh yeah, I wanted to talk songs about baseball.  There are a lot of songs out there that are about baseball, but unfortunately I can’t find any out there that are licensed under creative commons (let alone that are free to download).  Musicians of the world: this is a problem.

About the only band I can find that is putting out new stuff is The Baseball Project, and as far as I can tell their music doesn’t have much to do with the sport at all.  Or at least, only on a vaguely, slightly related level.  I’m not even going to link to them, because they don’t have any free tracks to offer (which is not a slight against them, but that’s what I’m trying to put together for this post – bands with free music about baseball).

Well, so much for that post idea.  I’m going to try to get some hip hop links to you this week, as I meant to last week but was unable to find anything of substance.  I have a few leads I found this morning so I’ll check ’em out when I have some time.

Lastly, related to baseball, I will be posting off and on at The Blue Jays Luddites, which is a blog my brother started.  It is about the Blue Jays and not relying on in-depth statistics / sabremetrics to talk about our favourite Canadian baseball squad.
